Historic church and churchyard landscape

About Church Pilgrim

Church Pilgrim helps people discover the history, heritage and faith of churches across England through searchable listings, maps and community contributions.

Our Story

Church Pilgrim was launched in 2026 by Samuel Chorlton of Newbury to create a lasting way to store and share our national history through the church buildings that have shaped our nation.

These places are more than landmarks. They hold local memory, craftsmanship, faith, community identity and centuries of change. From the earliest foundations of Christianity in England to the present day, churches have stood at the centre of community life - marking births, marriages and deaths, and offering a shared rhythm of worship and reflection.

A church is not only a structure of stone and timber, but a place set apart for gathering, prayer and the encounter with God. Within these spaces, Scripture is read, the sacraments are celebrated, and ordinary events of life are brought into a sacred context.
